If you’ve recently received a tariff or import duty bill for an ACR Systems order — or are worried about potential import fees before you buy — here’s what you need to know.
Nearly all ACR Systems products qualify for duty-free import into the United States under the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA), known as CUSMA in Canada. Only a small number of accessory items are exceptions.
As a Canadian manufacturer, ACR Systems regularly ships products to customers throughout the United States. The vast majority of our products qualify under the Canada–United States–Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) (known as USMCA in the U.S.), meaning no import tariffs should apply to these goods.
Most ACR-manufactured products — including our SRX, SmartReader Plus, ACR Air, Nautilus, PowerWatch, plus our accessory probes and the CAL Compressed Air Logger — are manufactured in Canada and are fully USMCA/CUSMA-eligible.
These items should be imported duty-free into the United States.
The following items do not qualify for duty-free treatment under USMCA/CUSMA and may be subject to standard U.S. import duties:
SmartButton and SmartButton accessories — manufactured in the Philippines
CT-453 Current Probe — manufactured in China
Connecting cables for legacy SmartReader Plus — manufactured in China
Note: While USMCA/CUSMA-eligible products are tariff-free, brokerage/handling fees (e.g., UPS/FedEx) and applicable taxes may still apply and are not tariffs. For any products supplied by third parties, a USMCA/CUSMA Certificate of Origin must be provided by that supplier if duty-free status is being claimed.
On rare occasions, U.S. customers have been incorrectly billed for import tariffs after delivery, or have been asked by carriers such as UPS or FedEx to pay tariffs before receiving their goods.
If this occurs:
Confirm that the shipment is from ACR Systems Inc. (Canada) and that the goods are labeled “Made in Canada” or “Made in USA.”
Advise the carrier that the products are CUSMA-eligible and should not be subject to import duties.
Provide the carrier with the CUSMA Certificate of Origin that accompanies every ACR shipment. If you did not receive one, please contact us and we will reissue it promptly.
To avoid confusion at customs, every ACR shipment to the U.S. includes:
A CUSMA Certificate of Origin
A commercial invoice that clearly states “Country of Origin: Canada” (where applicable)
HS Tariff Codes identifying Canadian- or U.S.-made products
These documents make it clear to customs brokers and carriers that the shipment is eligible for duty-free treatment under CUSMA.
We are working closely with our carriers to ensure CUSMA-eligible shipments are handled correctly and without unnecessary import fees or delivery delays.
If you have received a duty bill in error or have questions about CUSMA eligibility, please contact us immediately.
