Q&A

Q: Can I use other current probes with the SRX3?

A: Yes. The SRX3 accepts any AC current transducer that outputs a 0–5 V DC signal proportional to current. While ACR’s own clamp-on current transducers (10 A to 1000 A) come with predefined scaling equations in the TRX software for quick setup, you can also use third-party transducers.

If you are using a non-ACR transducer, simply enter a custom scaling equation in TRX Basic or TRX Pro to convert the transducer’s voltage output into the correct current range. This allows the SRX3 to support virtually any properly ranged 0–5 V current sensor.

Tip: Choose a transducer whose range closely matches the maximum current you expect to measure—typically around 1.5× the anticipated load for best resolution.

Q: Can I create custom equations for other probes in TrendReader TRX Basic software?

A: Yes. TRX Basic allows you to create custom linear scaling equations for third-party current transducers. Since AC current transducers output a linear 0–5 V signal proportional to the measured current, you can easily convert that voltage into amps by entering a simple linear equation (slope and offset) in the channel setup.

This makes it straightforward to use non-ACR probes with the SRX3, provided their output is linear and within the 0–5 V input range.

Tip: Use the transducer’s datasheet to determine its exact volts-per-amp ratio for accurate scaling.

Q: Does the SRX3 require rewiring or interrupting power to install probes?

A: No. When used with clamp-on current transducers, installation is completely non-intrusive. You simply clamp the transducer around the conductor — no disconnecting wires or shutting down equipment.

Q: Can the SRX3 detect phase imbalance?

A: Yes. By measuring all three phases simultaneously, you can compare current draw across each leg to identify imbalance, overloads, or improper loading on motors or compressors.

Q: What software do I need to use the SRX3?

A: The SRX3 works with TrendReader TRX Basic (included) or TrendReader TRX Pro. Both support setup, downloading, graphing, custom equations, and exporting data to CSV, Excel, or PDF.

Q: What’s the difference between a current logger and a run-time counter?

A: Run-time counters only record how long equipment is running. The SRX3 records how hard the equipment is working by capturing actual current draw over time. This reveals load patterns, cycling issues, inefficiencies, and imbalance that run-time meters cannot detect.
