TrendReader for SmartButton Software

TrendReader for SmartButton software is the companion application used to download, view, and analyze temperature data recorded by ACR SmartButton data loggers.

The software is freely available for download from the ACR website and does not require any license, activation, or subscription.

To communicate with a SmartButton and retrieve data, a compatible USB interface cable is required.

How is the SmartButton configured?

The SmartButton is configured using ACR’s TrendReader for SmartButton software. Users can set parameters such as sampling interval and logging duration before deployment.

How is data retrieved from the SmartButton?

No. The SmartButton is a standalone data logger and does not provide real-time monitoring or wireless communication. Data is stored internally and accessed after the logging session is complete.

Is the SmartButton waterproof?

No. Although it is water resistant, it is not actually waterproof. It does not carry an IP rating. Direct submersion is not recommended. There is a waterproof capsule (45-0013) available for submersion applications.

How many readings can I take with the SB?

The SmartButton can take 2048 readings. Multiply this number by the sample rate you have chosen to calculate the logging duration. The unit can be set to stop when full, or first in, first out (memory wrap) modes.

How long will the SmartButton last?

The life of the SmartButton depends on the sample rate selected and the temperature range of prolonged exposure. At normal ambient (room) temperatures you can expect about 4-5 years of life. Sustained temperatures over 50°C will shorten the internal battery’s life.

Can the battery be replaced?

No, the battery can’t be replaced or recharged. Once it has expired, the unit should be disposed of in the appropriate manner.

Can I disable the SmartButton to conserve its battery if it is to be unused for a long period?

You can’t completely disable the the SmartButton, you can minimize its battery consumption by setting the sample intervals to zero and saving the set up.

Can I calibrate the SmartButton?

Yes. SmartButtons can be supplied with NIST-traceable temperature calibration to provide documented confirmation of measurement accuracy. Calibration consists of comparing the SmartButton’s temperature readings against certified reference standards at defined temperature points.

SmartButtons are designed for long-term stability, and significant temperature drift is not expected under normal use. Calibration provides assurance and confidence that the recorded data accurately reflects actual temperature conditions at the time of verification.

If a SmartButton were ever found to fall outside its specified tolerance, replacement would be recommended.

Does TrendReader for SmartButton software require a license key?

No, TrendReader for SmartButton does not require a license key.

Can I export or convert the data once it has been collected?

The TrendReader for SmartButton software can graph and display the data and export to various formats such as PDF, Text and CSV. The software can also open multiple graphs simultaneously (merge) for easy comparison / viewing of different data sets. The combined graph can be saved and converted to the previously mentioned formats.

My interface cable is connected, but I don’t see the SBA cable icon under Connections in TrendReader for SmartButton. What is wrong?

Although the cable driver should install when the software is installed, sometimes it may not due to firewalls and antivirus software etc. The driver is provided in a directory within the TrendReader for SmartButton installation. You can find it at: C:\Program Files (x86)\ACR Systems\TrendReader 3\hardware Drivers\DS1W xSB Driver’ You may need to run it manually. (You may also need your System Administrator to grant permissions).

Can I use the old serial interface cable with TrendReader for SmartButton?

No, the old serial cable will let you make contact with the SmartButton, but will not allow you to make changes to the setup. Only the USB (blue dongle) interface cable will work with TrendReader for SmartButton software.

How Can I use TrendReader for SmartButton in Another Language?

TrendReader for SmartButton is a very flexible application that you can customize to your preferred language. You can change the language by changing the operating system language. This is done through your system's Regional Settings within the Control Panel. TrendReader for SmartButton supports the following languages:
